About Rica
Rica is a female Blue-Head Pionus, a medium-sized parrot with lovely blue coloration around the head and a soft green body. She has a quiet but playful personality. Bird lovers generally enjoy Pionus parrots for the affection that they offer without some of the intensity found in some of the larger parrot species.
Rica is only six months old and she has lots of time to establish her own personality and bond with her new family. She will become a confident and social companion with regular engagement and gentle handling.
The Blue-headed Pionus – A Few Words
The Blue-head Pionus parrot is a native of parts of Central and South America and inhabits forests, wooded areas and other natural settings. They are smart, alert birds and their voices are quite low compared to many other companion parrots.

Some Pionus parrots do learn words and sounds, but they are more regarded for their warm dispositions, amusing antics and ability to bond with their human caregivers.
Taking care of Rica.
Rica needs a large, secure cage that will give her lots of room to move, climb and play. Choose a variety of safe toys and rotate them periodically so your child does not become bored. She also requires daily engagement and supervised time outside her cage for her physical and mental well-being.
Her food should be based mostly on a good parrot pellet, with fresh vegetables, leafy greens and reasonable amounts of fruit. Always have clean, fresh drinking water on hand. As she gets older, an avian vet can help you set up a proper diet.
