The White-capped Pionus

The White-capped Pionus (Pionus senilis) is a small to medium sized parrot found in areas of Central America. The name of the species is derived from the unique light or white feathers on the crown of the head that contrast nicely with the deeper green body and vivid markings of the bird.

White Capped Pionus parrots are smart, watchful birds. Through regular interaction and positive instruction, they can be taught routines, sounds and simple behaviors. Like other parrots, Marion will do best with an owner who doesn’t demand an instant attachment but takes time to create trust.

Taking care of Marion

A large cage with safe perches, toys and space to walk around is necessary. Marion also should have regular supervised time outside her enclosure so she can exercise, explore, and socialize with her family.

Pionus parrots appreciate having things to explore. Rotate her toys on a regular basis and use moderate training and play opportunities to keep her mentally stimulated. Learn about keeping Pionus Parrots As Pets.
