The Tucumán Amazon

The Tucumán Amazon ( Amazona tucumana ) is a medium-sized parrot found in the hilly woods of northwestern Argentina and Bolivia. This bird is characterized by its mostly green plumage, bright red forehead and unusual wing markings.

Adult size is around 31 cm (12 inches) long. They have green feathers with darker margins, a crimson forehead, orange thighs and vivid wing feathers for a lovely natural look. Males and females are fairly similar in appearance hence the only way to sex them is through DNA testing.

Corry Care –

Tucumán Amazons need a large enclosure, an interesting environment and lots of interaction every day. Safe toys, time out of the cage with supervision and a regular schedule can assist to keep them active and happy.

A good quality parrot pellet diet, fed with fresh vegetables, leafy greens and acceptable fruit, will help to keep them healthy. There should always be fresh water to drink. Regular checks with an avian vet are necessary, too.
