If not properly socialised and tamed when young, they will never be particularly tame or friendly towards people. This species is likewise very difficult to breed in captivity and usually requires a very large aviary. This is why this bird is found more at bird parks and zoos, than as pets.
The Major Mitchell cockatoo is frequently referred to as a pink cockatoo due to the gentle pink colour of its body, but it is actually named for Major Sir Thoma who was a surveyor and explorer of South-east Australia in the 1800’s.
The most striking aspect of this gorgeous cockatoo is its white tipped crest band red and yellow at the base. The wings are typically white with a deeper pink bottom. Birds attain a length of 36 cm, which is of medium size for cockatoos. They are generally encountered in small groups or pairs, but have been seen with flocks of galahs and little corellas.

I came here to look for a pet bird a few months back, and I found a great companion. I ended up getting an adorable Major Mitchell Cockatoo . He was pretty cheap compared to most places and very lively. The people also seem to be really knowledgeable about birds, and have plenty of birds to choose from. Their Cooktiels are extremely nice and well trained. I would definitely recommend this place for getting a pet bird.
